It all started as fitting in with friends, but it ballooned into crippling addiction.
Ashley was just 20 years old and couldn’t believe how quickly she lost all control. “The drugs just started taking over me,” she says.
“My fiancé went to prison, and I lost the house and the car. Then I was on the streets.”
Ashley might still be on the streets if a judge hadn’t set her straight that Charlotte Rescue Mission could save and change her life. “I didn’t want to come at first, but now I love Dove’s Nest,” she says. “They care about us so much. They listen and care about our future.”
Without Charlotte Rescue Mission, Ashley says she would probably be dead or in prison. “Dove’s Nest has changed me. There’s a lot of support and if you’ve got problems, you can talk to anybody.”
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Ashley is giving thanks to staff and volunteers at the Mission, and for every donor who gives generously to help people like her overcome addiction and learn a new way to live. “The donors are amazing,” she says. “If not for donors, there wouldn’t be a Dove’s Nest. So I’m really thankful for everyone who supports Charlotte Rescue Mission.”
