Senior Philanthropy Officer

The Senior Philanthropy Officer will have primary responsibility for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donor prospects for yearly operating support, capital projects, and special campaigns.  This position will work closely with the Chief Development Officer to coordinate strategy for major donors.  This position requires some evening and weekend work to attend functions and accommodate donor availability in scheduling appointments.  This position will daily be engaged with donors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce and execute plans for all aspects of major gifts work including:  identification and rating of prospects, creating strategies to increase giving of assigned and new donors, thank you procedures, and tracking of fundraiser activities and metrics and potential.
  • Manage 150 – 175 gift prospects, designing and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of these prospects.
  • Identify new prospective donors by working closely with the Manager of Development Operations and Donor Relations staff to identify patterns of giving.  Research and rate new prospective donors.
  • Make 120 face-to-face visits annually in addition to frequent phone and email contact with donors.  Maintain a precise record of donor contacts through the Virtuous database.
  • Design and implement written strategies for top prospects and track progress throughout the year.
  • Assist in annual fall fundraising event sponsorships and guest invitations.
  • Be responsible for specific fundraising initiatives that may arise to address a particular need or as part of a long-term campaign.
  • Provide staffing support for CRM fundraising, stewardship, and public awareness events.
  • Meet weekly with the Manager of Development Operations and Chief Development Officer.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum three years of experience and proven record in fundraising and development with major donors; five years of direct experience preferred.

Skill:

-Strong oral and written communication skills

-Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues

-Self-directed, motivated, and organized

-High professional standards are required with an understanding of donor confidentiality

-Proficient in Microsoft Windows work environment, Microsoft Office

-Knowledge of Virtuous or similar database preferred

Ability:

-Must be able to spend the majority of time sitting, speaking, listening, and/or writing

-Must be able to lift 40 pounds
