Controller

The Controller oversees the Accounting Department, ensuring the accuracy of CRM financial records and managing key financial metrics. This role involves supervising accounting staff, analyzing financial data, and preparing reports. The Controller also acts as a backup for the Chief Financial Officer and serves as a liaison to other departments on financial matters, including policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Supervise Accounting Department personnel
  •  Ensure accurate posting and presentation of financial data
  •  Lead annual budget preparation and analyze monthly variances
  •  Review & reconcile activity between Advancement, Accounting and Bank applications
  •  Oversee fixed asset systems/recordkeeping (additions, deletions, depreciation, GL’s)
  •  Assist external auditors with annual financials and Form 990 preparation

  •  ABC Grant report (prepare & process)
  •  Accounts payable reconciliation to GL
  •  Monthly Bank Reconciliations
  • Allocation GL entries (maintain & manage)
  •  Budget variance reports (prepare, review with management)
  •  Employment security reports (prepare & process)
  •  Endowment recordkeeping (verification of Development data)
  •  Financial internal controls, policies & procedures (ensure compliance)
  •  GL activity review (income, expense, assets, liabilities)
  •  GL file maintenance (open, delete, update)
  •  Gift-in-kind (GIK) measurement and reporting (oversight, direction)
  •  Inventory counting and valuation (annual)
  •  Month-end journal entries (prepare & post)
  •  Form 941 reconciliation to CRM records
  •  Project information (review, adjust, distribute)
  •  Restricted fund expenditures (process adjustments)
  •  Sales tax reports/payments (prepare & process)
  •  USDA report (prepare & process)

Secondary:

  •  Accounts payable {payment authorization)
  •  Accounts payable {input review before invoice posting)
  •  Accounts payable {vendor maintenance)
  •  Bank cash deposits (process)
  •  Board financial reports (prepare, review with management)
  •  Certificate of insurance requests
  •  Insurance updating for CRM drivers
  •  Payroll (entry preparation & posting)
  •  Payroll (FSA data preparation & submission)
  •  Payroll {PR-related expense spreadsheets)
  •  Stock gift valuation
  •  Bank Positive Pay (setup, item handling)
  •  Workers’ compensation reports/audits
  •  Other duties as assigned

Qualifications Experience:

  • REQUIRED – BA/BS Degree in Accounting with at least five years of experience in finance/accounting (non-profit sector preferred). OR 10 Years Accounting and Finance experience with a BA/BS Degree in any other field.
  • Experience in general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payables, fixed assets and payroll. Working knowledge and application of not-for-profit accounting principles.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CNAP (Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional) preferred but not required.

Skills:

  •  Multi-tasking and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  •  Project deadline management.
  •  Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and subsidiary applications,     accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, tax reporting, and other financial reports   used in financial analysis, standard bookkeeping practices.
  •  Proficiency with desktop PC applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, internet).
  •  Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  •  Proficiency in financial accounting software and accounts payable software (Sage   Intaact and Bill.com experience, preferred but not required)

Abilities:

  •  Must be able to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
  •  Must be able to sit/stand for lengthy periods and climb stairs.
