Server

The Server assists guests of the Community Matters Café Coffee Shop and Dining Room. The Server works closely with the Front of House, Server Trainer and Coffee Shop Managers. The Server will also assist directly with the day to day operations of Student Residents, guest interaction and service activities. Excellent communication skills are a must and the ability to work in a faith-based residential recovery environment. Must be a self-starter, able to multi-task, a team player willing to work with various departments and the community to achieve overall goals of the Student Resident.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Prepare room for dining by setting dining room and ensuring cleanliness of all Front of House areas.
    • Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation and safety policies
    • Assist patrons with selecting food and beverages by presenting menu, suggesting courses, explaining the chef’s specialties and answering any food preparation questions
    • Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc.
    • Transmit orders to coffee bar and kitchen by recording patrons’ choices, identifying patrons’ special dietary needs or special requests
    • Keep kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression
    • Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons’ choices from coffee bar and kitchen; deliver accompaniments and condiments from service bars
    • Respond to additional patron requirements by inquiring of needs, observing dining process
    • Maintain table setting by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, being alert to patron spills or other special needs
    • Conclude dining experience by acknowledging choice of restaurant and inviting patrons to return
    • Obtain revenues by totaling charges, issuing bill, accepting payment, delivering bill and payment to host; returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
    • Provide welcoming phone greeting and following Guest ordering procedures
    • Convey menu information over the phone to Guests and give accurate estimate of delivery time
    • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor
    • Fill in for absent staff as needed, assist with special events as needed, adhere to appropriate grooming and appearance
    • Attend training sessions to increase applicable knowledge and skills
    • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

The work environment can be loud and busy. There are many kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to walk and stand during entire shift
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and wipe
  • Must be able to articulate clear greetings and farewells to Guests
  • Must be able to understand requests for assistance
  • Must be able to carry trays or supplies (10-50 lbs.)
  • A desire to help where needed and work as part of a team
  • Passion for providing extraordinary service
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma with some college experience is a plus
  • Prior experience as a Restaurant Server or Host
