Scott’s Story

“A better life through faith in God!”

Scott’s early memories are not happy ones. His father left when he was young and he was “scared to death” of his stepfather. “I had to do everything perfectly, or else there were consequences.”

At 12, Scott began to rebel. “There was always a lot of drinking going on at the house, and I would sneak liquor and beer because it helped me escape from reality.”

Scott was 16 when he ran away from home to live with his biological father. But he was still drinking and using drugs. He joined the military, and that didn’t help his addictions.

Drugs. Drinking. Jail. Fighting. Scott’s life was an endless chain of troubles. Until he met a girl. “I got married. I had a house. I started my own business building custom homes, and I stayed sober for 24 years!”

Then, Scott’s wife left. “I had gotten away from AA and didn’t have a sponsor. That first night, I drank 84 beers…”

Drinking became a daily occurrence again, and Scott lost everything: his wife, his home, his business and his relationship with his children.

He ended up on the streets. “I was ashamed and disgusted with myself. There was no hope for me. Then, God came into my life!”

Scott found the Rescue Mission and our residential Rebound recovery program. “We started praying every night and I made a commitment to myself to read the Bible.”

Rebound has also given Scott a new perspective on the disease of alcoholism and what he can do to help himself, and how he can help others. And that makes him feel “just great.”
