Changing lives since 1938

Archive for October, 2011

This is another wonderful letter from a current Rebound client. This time, it’s to our generous volunteers who make our work possible each day:

Dear Volunteers,

Thank you so much for the material and monetary donations. But, the donations that meant the most to me were the donations of time, prayer, and encouragement that you gave us. Your time showed me that the community as a whole does care about the suffering addicts and alcoholics. Everyone that came through had kind words and was always ready to lead us in prayer.

The volunteers that came on nights that we have chapel hold a special place in my heart. They helped me find a relationship with God, a relationship that I had given up on a long time ago. Thank you for not trying to force feed me your beliefs; you simply told us what God has done for you and let us come to our own conclusions. I have never really been an atheist, but I was estranged from religion for years. Since I have been at Rebound I have become an active member in a church of my own and can feel God working in my life. I always looked for a big miracle, a “burning bush” sort of thing, now I can see and appreciate the small miracles in everyday life.

Sincerely,
Anonymous

Life’s Struggles:

Keeping the Vision Alive for Your Life

It’s the real story of David and Goliath as found in Scripture.  What is the promise for the man that kills Goliath?

Your Past does not have to Define Your Future

How do we respond to things that have been done to us, things that have been done through us and things that have been done by us?

Life’s Mistakes Aren’t the End of the Story

The story of David and Bathsheba.  God brings glory out of the ashes and the mistakes of our life.

When the Struggles of Life Make it Hard to Feel

How God changes our heart of stone into a heart of flesh.

When Our Heart Feels As Though it’s Broken

Jeremiah 2:13— We have forsaken God and have become broken cisterns that can hold no water.   What happens when we are going through a crisis and we feel all is broken?

Personal Relationships:

How to Say “No” and Still Have Friends

How do you let your “yes” be “yes” and your “no” be “no?”  How do you establish strong, healthy boundaries which allow you to be assertive without being passive   or aggressive?

Biblical Look At Personality Temperaments

Regardless of who we are, God uses all four personality temperaments to make leaders of us all.

Bringing Balance To Your Life

How do we create balance in the areas of: physical, emotional, spiritual, social and vocational portions of our life?

Forgiveness Between You and I– What It Is and What It Isn’t

What is forgiveness and what is it not?

Love and Relationship Addiction

Why do we confuse unhealthy relationships with love and stay in them long after most people would have left?

Normal Is Just A Setting on Your Dryer

What is normal to you is not normal to me.  And what is normal can be very destructive. How do we break the generational cycle of destructive behavior that is passed down?

Marriage:

Strong Marital Harmony

Based on “His Needs, Her Needs” by William F.  Harley Jr. and “For Women Only” by Shaunti Feldhahn.

Establishing Independence From Your Family

As we seek the bonds of matrimony, what freedom do we need from our family of origin?

Healthy Family System:

Breaking Family Secrets

How do we break family secrets and the bondage they keep us in to be all that God wants us to be?

Why Do You Want to Go Back To Egypt?

We all like to live within our comfort zone, even if it destructive, abusive or hurtful.  Why?

Men’s Ministry:

What Every Man Longs to Hear

“Blessing.” This is what every man desires from His Father:  “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Thank God It’s Monday—  Moving from Performance to Position

Do you derive more significance and appreciation from work than anything else?  This is a common struggle among men.  How do we move our lives from performance to position in Christ?

God’s Grace:

As Different As We All Are, We Are Still the Same

Regardless of who we are and what we    have done, the ground at the cross is very level.

A Heartfelt Response When God Forgives You

We are forgiven of our sins through Christ. Through this new life, God calls us to a very different life, one that does not resemble our past.

Compassion Ministry:

God’s Heart for the Poor

God accepts us just as we are but He loves us too much to leave us there.  What is our response, as Christians, as we commit to making a difference in those less fortunate in our community?
