An anonymous donor has given $6,000 to help Dove’s Nest graduates pay for their first two months of the YWCA’s “Women in Transition” program. Charlotte Observer writes:

In the past, some graduates of Charlotte Rescue Mission’s “Dove’s Nest” — an intensive 120-day program to help women deal with drug and alcohol addictions — have moved into the YWCA’s “Women in Transition” program, which gives them secure housing and job training.

Women in Transition costs $300 a month, so women must have employment to enter the program. The monthly fee covers rent, utilities, case managers, computer access, skills workshops and budgeting assistance.

“(Women in Transition) is affordable, but it’s not affordable for someone who has no income,” said Kirsten Sikkelee, chief executive officer of YWCA Central Carolinas.

But for many women, the move from an intensive rehabilitation program to the workforce is difficult, especially in this economy.
