Changing lives for over 70 years…

Archive for November, 2009

Thanksgiving 2009 saw record numbers enter hungry through our doors.  We served breakfast and lunch, showed videos in our chapel, coffee in the morning, and let guests use cellphones donated by Cricket to make free phone calls to loved ones.   Here is some local media coverage of the holiday:

The Charlotte Post covers this story of one of our clients, Stephen Addison.

StephenStephen Addison isn’t spending Thanksgiving with his family in Charleston, S.C., this year. Again.

Addison is at the Charlotte Rescue Mission Men’s recovery program trying to kick a drug habit.

His mom, Inez, wishes he could be home for the holiday.

“He has missed many Thanksgivings (with me),” Inez said by phone. “It would be nice if I could send him a big plate (via) UPS or something. He loves Thanksgiving and the family scene. But I know one day we will (be together) again.”

cricket Every holiday, guests at the mission are allowed to use cell phones to make free phone calls to loved ones while they’re at the mission for a hearty meal.  This year, cell phone carrier Cricket has generously donated the use of their cell phones to make this possible.  Thank you Cricket!

To Rev. Marciano in response to his recent interview on the David Chadwick show:

My Husband and I listened to this together today. We enjoyed listening to your interview. I want to tell you I am truly grateful that I was a client here. This is where I met God and developed a personal relationship with Him. I was told all I need is a mustard seed of Faith. Everything you talked about is what happened here. The healing from the inside out took place.  Really a transformation took place in my heart. The gift of desperation. I am forever grateful to Bobbie my counselor. For reaching that hurt little girl inside of me.  For the safe place at the Doves Nest to stay and learn how to live. Thanks for the spiritual  foundation, tools, love, nurturing. I will have 5 years on Jan. 7, 2010.  Thank-you for what you do for people like me. Thanks for …the opportunity to …grow in my life without drugs and alcohol.
