I was wondering if a organization from NAACP, could come and help sometime in December and Febraury, I have around 15 pp, that would like to come and help feed.
That sounds great! We’ll be contacting you by email to make arrangements. Thanks for your interest in volunteering at Charlotte Rescue Mission.
Dear Charlotte Rescue Mission,
I would love to be a volunteer. I can serve in any capacity you need me. I am in the medical field. I used to speak to ladies groups
about being abused myself.I can sing.I used to be involved in the
prison ministry at my church.I went to the Fisher Projects in New Orleans, La. and conducted a weekly Bible study.I headed up an outdoor Christian music ministry in Jackson Square in New Orleans.
I work in medicine now and would love to help the mission anyway I can.
Thank you for all you do for others. I was once homeless myself.
Sincerely,
Ginger
My family of 4 (all adults) will be visiting Charlotte for Christmas and would like to volunteer in some capacity to help feed your residents. What do we need to do?
Ginger & Starnell, thanks for contacting us. We will email you to discuss volunteer opportunities.
I would like to become a volunteer at CRM, however I am not very skillful in the kitchen or with cooking. Is there anything else I can do to become active with your organization? I would like to donate as much as possible, whether it is financial, food, clothing, or just time. Look forward to hearing from you.
Jodi – absolutely. We have many opportunities including tutoring in Math or English, office work, and various other tasks. For example, right now we need volunteers to help man a booth at the Charlotte Auto Show. Maybe this is something you would be interested in. We will contact you by email to discuss options. Thanks for contacting us!
Hi,
Donal and I would be interested in finding out about volunteering to help serve Thanksgiving Dinner at the Rescue Mission. Do you need volunteers for Thanksgiving? Let us know.
Thanks,
Karen Simpson
Karen, thanks for asking. We are already full for Thanksgiving. We usually fill up on the very first day that we open volunteer registration each year. As a heads up, try to contact us about 2 months in advance to check on the date that registration opens and call Andria (704-334-4635 x214) that morning.
Volunteer registration for Christmas will open on December 1st.
I was coming to find out about helping on Thanksgiving day, but see that you are already full. Will you need donations for desserts this year? I would love to help. Thanks.
Stephanie, yes! Thank you for asking. We always need homemade desserts on the day before and morning of Thanksgiving. Thanks for thinking about us.
My family and I would like to contribute some desserts for Thanksgiving. Can you tell me specifically what you might need?
Sheri, anything and everything. (How’s that for specific?) Traditionally we receive lots of cookies, pies, and cakes, etc. We can use any and all of the above. Pies or cakes can be brought as baked and volunteers will divide them into individual servings. Thanks for thinking of those less fortunate.
Hi! I have recently sent in my info about volunteering. I was reading and realized that you need deserts. So I believe my friend Sarah and I can make some yummy deserts and bring them for Thanksgiving.
Dawn – thanks!
My daughter and I would like to donate some desserts for the Thanksgiving Meal. When and Where do we bring them ?
So glad you have lots of help for Thanksgiving …. checked out your website as I was considering offering my services for part of the day. Blessings!
Kristin,
You can drop off desserts any time the week of Thanksgiving up to Thanksgiving morning. You can bring them to our main location. Thanks!
I heard an announcement on the radio that you need donations of homemade desserts. Do you still need them? I would love to bake a ton of desserts and drop them off on Wednesday. How many meals do you serve on Thanksgiving? What is the address to drop off the desserts?
Gina, – yes we are still hoping to get lots of homemade desserts. The guys really appreciate it on Thanksgiving day. We are planning to serve about 1,200 meals on Thanksgiving day but we can never be certain. We start cooking turkeys a week in advance! You can drop them off at our main location which is: 907 West First St. Thanks!
Is there a process to go through for the desserts, was hoping to volunteer for Thanksgiving, but I see you are already full. Is there a form to fill out for desserts? Do we just drop them off? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks!!
Tammy – no process, just drop them off at our main location (907 W 1st St). There is free parking on the road and we also have a parking lot if necessary. Look for the glass entrance way. Thanks!
Are there still slots open to volunteer for Thanksgiving?
Jennifer – Sorry, we have already filled all of our slots. These usually fill up very fast. If you’re interested in volunteering on Christmas day, volunteer registration opens Dec 1st. You’ll need to call our volunteer coordinator at 704-334-4635 x214 on that morning. Thanks!
I have family who will be coming to town Tuesday and wanted to volunteer Thanksgiving I see that you are full. Do you need any assistance Wednesday?
Tamara – thanks for asking. We’ll contact you by email.
CRM-I have a gently used soup kettle available for donation, would your organization be able to use it? Works like new and includes bain marie. thanks!
Jamie – sure you can bring it down to our main location at 907 W 1st St anytime. Thanks.
DO YOU STILL NEED DESERTS FOR THANKSGIVING?
Alexa – Yes we do. Thanks.
Would love to volunteer or bring any dessert or any needed items for any occasion. Please keep me posted how I can help.
Linda
WHAT ALL DO YALL STILL NEED FOR THANKSGIVING SUPPER?
Do you all still need any food items for Thanksgiving? We have a turkey to donate and want to know if it should be dropped off cooked or uncooked. Please advise.
Thanks.
CRM-I would like to drop off some brownies and cookies, how late can I do that tonight (Wed.)? Also, do I just take them to the security desk?
Linda – We always accept food donations. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact our volunteer coordinator at 704-334-4635 x214
Alexa – We have most of the food we need. Of course, we never turn down food and we can still use more desserts. Honestly our biggest need right now is financial.
Shay – We can always use turkeys even after Thanksgiving. It should be uncooked and preferably still frozen.
Jamie – You can drop them off anytime. We are always open 24/7 and yes, just bring them to the security desk.
Thank you all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Do you need any help serving food tomorrow? Want to bring my son down to see how everyone spends Thanksgiving in different ways and settings. Thanks
I’m coming down to visit my family in the Charlotte area for Christmas. I just started looking around to see if I could find a place where I can either volunteer serving or baking, or whatever you may need, in the area. Do you still have spaces for volunteers, what are the opportunities and options for volunteering, what do you need most? I also have a niece and a nephew, age 9 and 7 respectively, and I wondered if there is anything for them to do if I were to bring them?
Thanks!
Katie, thanks for thinking of us. We are full on Christmas day as far as volunteers go but we can definitely use homemade desserts. All you need to do is bake any kind of dessert and deliver it to our main location by 9:30 on Christmas morning.
If you’re interested in opportunities on days other than Christmas day, please call our volunteer coordinator at 704-334-4635 x214.
I read the numerous comments posted on your website, and was disappointed, as well as, pleased that you have all the volunteers you need since I wanted to bring my grandson to help. I will certainly drop-off desserts. Can you recommend another shelter?
Sherry, you might want to try the Uptown Shelter ( 704-334-3187 ) or Urban Ministry ( 704-347-0728 ). I’m not sure if they do a Christmas meal or not. Thanks!
I would like to free up some of my down time by extending my services at your facility. Do you have a need for me? Right now, I am only available on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings until my work schedule changes in July. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Sherry
Thanks Sherry. Andria Tindall, our volunteer coordinator, will contact you shortly if she hasn’t already.
I’d like for my children start volunteering (as a family) , my son is 6 years old, is he too young to help with meals?
Melissa,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Charlotte Rescue Mission with your 6 year old son. We do allow children and youth to volunteer to help serve a weekday meal to our 145 Rebound residents. Youth that are 13 and older are permitted in the kitchen, youth 12 and under are not permitted in the kitchen and must remain in the dining room. They must also be closely supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
The first step to get involved would be for you to attend a Talk & Tour orientation, which we host twice a month. After attending orientation and submitting a volunteer form, we can schedule a date for you and your son to come and help serve a meal during the week.
